BeyondReach Equipment Decals

Graphic Design

July 2022

OBJECTIVE:

BeyondReach (BR) is a B2B technology company that specializes in delivering internet connectivity to hard-to-reach places across the U.S. I received a request from their marketing manager to create some new equipment stickers that they could place on installed hardware to let customers and technicians know who to contact if having connectivity issues.

PROCESS:

Some of the hardware BeyondReach installs includes antennas and cabinets that are exposed to all elements for any period of time, up to several years. The antennas were the most likely to end up in harsh weather due to being mounted at potentially high altitudes, so the equipment stickers needed to be able to withstand wind, rain, direct sunlight, freezing conditions, etc.

Research was a necessity for this project. I found options for weather-resistant stickers with UV coating and ordered samples to get input from the technicians and warehouse staff who would be working with them. I also uncovered a problem: BR's primary color, red, is the hue that fades the most and the fastest when exposed to a lot of direct sunlight. The team had originally thought red stickers would stand out nicely on the equipment, but they went with my recommendation to keep the sticker backgrounds white with the text in black for the highest contrast and the best longevity in the elements. The UV coating helps to protect the ink as well. I kept a red stripe at the top and bottom of the sticker to help it pop; and if the red faded, no critical information was lost.
